Train Speed Checker Online
Measure your current train speed in km/h using GPS. Track live speed, max speed, average speed, distance, and GPS accuracy while you travel.
How to Use the Train Speed Checker
- Open this page on your phone while travelling by train.
- Tap Start Tracking and allow location permission.
- Keep your phone near a window for better GPS signal.
- Watch current speed, max speed, average speed, distance, and GPS accuracy.
What This Tool Measures
The online speedometer uses your device's GPS location updates to estimate movement speed. When the browser provides a direct GPS speed reading, GapSeat uses that value. If the browser does not provide speed, the tool estimates speed from distance covered between location updates.
To reduce false readings when the train is stationary, the tool filters small GPS jumps based on location accuracy. Readings are most reliable when the GPS accuracy value is low.
Privacy note: Speed tracking runs in your browser. GapSeat does not need your train number, PNR, or login to calculate speed on this page.
When GPS Speed Can Be Wrong
- Inside tunnels, underground sections, or covered platforms.
- When the phone is far from a window inside a metal coach.
- When location permission is blocked or battery saver limits GPS.
- When GPS accuracy is poor, such as 50 meters or more.
Train Speed Checker vs Live Train Status
A live train status page usually tells you where a train is and whether it is delayed. This speed checker is different: it measures the speed of the device you are carrying. That makes it useful when you want to know how fast your current train is moving right now.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this train speed checker free?
Yes. The web train speed checker is free to use and works in supported mobile browsers after you grant location permission.
Does it work on desktop?
It can work on desktops with location support, but it is meant for phones because phones usually have better GPS hardware.
Why does speed show zero while the train is moving slowly?
The tool filters weak GPS drift. If GPS accuracy is poor, very low speeds may be shown as zero until the location signal improves.
Can this show official train speed?
No. It measures your device movement using GPS. It is not an official Indian Railways speed feed.
