Learn moreFind vacant train berths after chart preparation
Simply enter your train name or number, select your travel date and route. GapSeat will analyze the train chart after preparation to find vacant seats between stations.
Choose your boarding and destination stations. GapSeat will show you all available seats that are vacant for that specific route segment, even if the train is fully booked.
GapSeat will display a list of vacant seats that you can book through IRCTC. You can also use the seat hopping feature to combine multiple vacant segments for a fully confirmed journey.
A real scenario showing how vacant seats after chart preparation are discovered across route segments.
You searched for Mumbai Central to New Delhi. IRCTC shows WL 34. GapSeat analyzes the chart and finds these vacant berths:
| Coach | Berth | Type | Vacant Segment |
|---|---|---|---|
| B2 | 15 | Lower | Mumbai Central → Kota |
| A1 | 28 | Side Upper | Mumbai Central → Vadodara |
| B4 | 7 | Upper | Kota → New Delhi |
| B1 | 32 | Middle | Vadodara → New Delhi |
Switch seats at Kota. Both segments are confirmed vacant — travel the full route without a waitlist.
GapSeat reads publicly available Indian Railways chart data — the same data visible to any passenger. No scraping. No unauthorized access.
After Indian Railways prepares the final chart (typically 4 hours before departure), GapSeat reads the published passenger chart for your train and date.
Every berth is checked across all station pairs on the route. A seat booked Delhi→Jaipur is vacant from Jaipur onward — GapSeat maps these gaps for every coach.
Results are compiled into a clear view: which berths are vacant, for which segments, and how to combine them for your journey using seat hopping.
Data source: Publicly available train chart information from Indian Railways. GapSeat does not use any private, restricted, or scraped data.

This is an excellent app. One extra feature which you could add is 2 different coach type filter. Like only 2A and 3A seat filters not sleeper. Currently it's just one class type filter. Kudos!!

What GapSeat does — and what it does not do. No ambiguity.
A post-chart vacant seat finder built on verifiable facts, not marketing claims.
GapSeat reads the same Indian Railways chart data that is publicly accessible to any passenger. No private APIs. No scraping.
Use GapSeat without creating an account, entering credentials, or sharing personal information of any kind.
GapSeat is a standalone tool. It never accesses, connects to, or interacts with your IRCTC account.
Every seat vacancy shown by GapSeat can be cross-checked against the official train chart published by Indian Railways.
No subscriptions, no premium tiers, no in-app purchases for chart vacancy and train seat availability checking.
Regular updates to ensure compatibility with Indian Railways data formats and to improve accuracy of seat availability results.
Every day, millions of Indian travelers face the same frustration — trains show "fully booked" on IRCTC, but many berths actually remain vacant between intermediate stations. GapSeat is built to solve this exact problem. Our app analyzes train chart data from Indian Railways to surface hidden seat vacancies that traditional booking platforms don't show you.
Whether you're traveling for work, family visits, or emergencies, GapSeat gives you a real chance at getting a confirmed seat on trains like Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Duronto, Garib Rath, and all Mail/Express trains across India.
When Indian Railways prepares the final chart (usually 4 hours before departure), the passenger list is locked. At this point, several berths become vacant due to cancellations, no-shows, and partial-route bookings. Here is what GapSeat does differently:
This level of detail is simply not available on the IRCTC website or app, making GapSeat an essential tool for regular train travelers in India.
IRCTC is the official booking platform — and you still book your tickets there. But IRCTC only shows aggregate availability (Available, WL, RAC) for the full route. It doesn't tell you about seats vacant between intermediate stations. Here's the difference:
Last-minute travel for meetings? GapSeat finds available berths when trains appear fully booked.
Traveling with elderly parents or young children and need confirmed seats? Use seat hopping for comfortable journeys.
Going home during holidays when all trains are packed? GapSeat finds hidden vacancies that most people miss.
Urgent family situations where you absolutely need to travel today? Check post-chart vacancies across all trains.
GapSeat is used by over 50,000 travelers across India who regularly travel on routes like Delhi–Mumbai, Chennai–Bangalore, Kolkata–Patna, Hyderabad–Vijayawada, and hundreds of other popular corridors.
GapSeat uses only publicly available train chart data. We don't store your personal information, don't require login credentials, and don't access your IRCTC account. The app is completely transparent — you see the same data that Indian Railways publishes, just analyzed in a smarter, more useful way.
Our commitment: GapSeat will always remain free for basic seat availability checking. We believe every Indian traveler deserves a fair chance at getting a confirmed seat.
How to find vacant seat in train after chart preparation is a common question when your booking is waitlisted or your trip is urgent. After the final chart is released, seats can still open due to cancellations, no-shows, quota release, or last-minute coach adjustments. The practical approach is to check updates near departure and book quickly when a berth appears.
These steps help track vacant seats after chart preparation, especially when train seat availability changes quickly. Many passengers cancel close to departure, and operational updates can release blocked inventory into confirmed seats for eligible travelers.
